However, you may download the same complete brochure for course descriptions, schedules, bios, and other information.

REMEMBER THAT ACCEPTANCE INTO ADVANCED CLASSES REQUIRES A COVER LETTER WITH QUALIFICATIONS STATED, SUCH AS EXPERIENCE AND PUBLICATIONS.

REGISTRATION IS OPEN. If we are on the phone answering registration questions the call will go to our answering machine. YOU WILL GET RESPONSES QUICKLY IF YOU E-MAIL US.

The CCWC office is open for business Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9 to 3. Sometimes both of us need to be out of the office together on business, so please be patient.

The 47th Annual CCWC Double Conference offers registrants a choice of attending all week, or for a half-week. By consolidating 7.5 hours of instruction to three days instead of spreading it out over five as it has in the past, this conference will require less driving for commuters, and fewer overnight accommodations for those who stay at Craigville or elsewhere.

Craigville has agreed to the half-week stay for attendees as well as faculty – offering three and four-night stays for those attending for a half-week, and six and seven-day stays for those staying all week. Likewise Craigville has agreed to modify the meal times to accommodate our schedule.

REGISTRATION WILL CLOSE ON JULY 15 AND CLASSES WITHOUT ADEQUATE ENROLLMENT WILL BE CANCELLED WITH FULL REFUNDS. CLASS SIZE IS CAPPED AND THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS.

Complete faculty bios and course descriptions are in the downloadable brochure and brochures that are being mailed. If you are not a member and have not attended the conference in the past three years, please e-mail us a request for a brochure with your snail mail address.

THE CAPE COD WRITERS CENTER IS ENTERING ITS 48TH YEAR!

For the past 46 years, during the third week in August, Cape Cod Writers Center has drawn together writers at various levels of experience. Over the years this annual gathering has evolved into a summer conference nationally recognized in professional writers circles. It now offers courses in fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, screenwriting, editing, and publishing. Literary agents and editors are in residence throughout the week and with faculty conduct individual manuscript evaluation/ mentoring sessions.

Evening speakers programs, master classes, and poetry and prose readings round out the experience.Since 1963, distinguished speakers and faculty at the conference have included Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., Mary Higgins Clark, Marge Piercy, Robert Finch, Art Buchwald, Dennis Lehane, Claire Cook, Wes McNair, and Affa Michael Weaver, among others. Last summer Newsweek contributing editor and McLaughlin Group regular Eleanor Clift addressed the conference one evening; and David Godine, founder of David Godine Publisher, the award-winning Boston publishing house, spoke to us on another night and chaired our Master Class on publishing. This year Marita Golden, founder of the Hurston-Wright Foundation will be among our keynote speakers, as well as Roger Sutton, editor in chief of the critical Horn book on children's and young adult books; Martin Sandler Emmy-award winning writer; and David Kirkpatrick, co-founder of Plymouth Rock Studios.

A tuition-free weeklong Young Writers Workshop (see Young Writers webpage ) offered during the conference accommodates approximately 45 twelve to sixteen year olds, selected competitively through submissions judged by a committee of published writers.

The location of the conference is a charming Victorian village in the Craigville area of Centerville, overlooking Nantucket Sound.

Craigville Conference Center, on a bluff overlooking Nantucket Sound, has been the unique setting for the Cape Cod Writers Center summer conference for the past 46 years.

Charming Cape Cod cottages, many on the National Historic Register, and an historic post office, inn, and Tabernacle encircle the classic green, or small park, of the original 1871 church campground from which the village evolved.

Four inviting guest houses (Manor, Lodge, Seaside and Inn) serve as lodging and classrooms with views of fresh water ponds and marshes, and Craigville's world-famous ocean beach.

Two books by Marion R. Vuilleumier, founder of the Cape Cod Writers' Center, capture the rich history of the village: Cape Cod's Craigville and Craigville Now and Then.

Driving Directions:

Take Route 6 east to Exit 5. At end of ramp, go straight across Route 149. Take the first right onto Old Stage Road. Follow to the stop sign and take a left, you will still be on Old Stage Road.  Proceed to the light and go straight, then straight at the next stop sign and straight through the next light.

You are now on Craigville Beach Road and you will see the beach on the right.  Once you pass the long gray beach complex, the road will start to curve to the left, and you will see the green and white Craigville Conference Center sign on the left.  Take this left onto Lake Elizabeth Drive and you may follow our signs from there to get to the Manor and the Lodge. Or follow Lake Elizabeth on your right side until you come to the sign for the Tabernacle.  Take that left and follow – the Inn will be on the right and the Tabernacle will be in front of you.

A limited number of rooms with board are available at Craigville Conference Center for our conference as 3-night, 4-night, 6-night and 7-night stays this summer for the first time. Accommodations there must be arranged by participants directly with the Conference Center at (508) 775-1265 or by fax to
(508) 778-1160. To assure your space, reserve early!

Other lodging is available in Centerville, Osterville, Hyannis and nearby Cape Cod towns. Again, we strongly recommend early reservations.

Last summer several faculty for our short courses stayed in the Centerville Bed and Breakfasts - Long Dell Inn and Fernbrook Inn, and spoke highly of their accommodations.

The Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce provides a full listing of accommodations and restaurants, as well as transportation information. See www.capecodchamber.org. Also try Craigslist.com.
